What is this wine?
Comte Armand’s Clos des Epeneaux is one of Burgundy’s great monopoles: a five-hectare walled vineyard in Pommard, classified as premier cru. The domaine has long been a reference point for the appellation, producing ageworthy, structured wines from old-vine Pinot Noir. The 2010 vintage was cool and classically styled, yielding elegant, balanced reds with fine acidity and notable aging potential. Offered here in magnum format, it promises even greater longevity.

Why get this wine?
Clos des Epeneaux is a jewel of Pommard—singular in both size and quality. The 2010 vintage is prized for its precision and freshness, and in magnum, the wine evolves more slowly, preserving vibrancy for years to come. This is a rare chance to secure a large-format bottle from a legendary vineyard, perfect for collectors or for opening at a special occasion.

What does this wine taste like?
Deep and structured, with dark cherry, blackberry, and red currant framed by earthy notes, spice, and a touch of violet. Still vibrant, with firm but integrated tannins, lively acidity, and a long, mineral-tinged finish.

When should you drink this wine?
Now entering a beautiful drinking window but with another 10–15 years of life, especially in magnum. Decant for an hour before serving. A superb match for duck, game, beef dishes, or mushroom-based cuisine.

The jewel in the crown of Comte Armand is the 13 acre premier cru monopole vineyard Clos des Epéneaux vineyard of Pommard. The vineyard and other bottlings from Volnay and Auxey-Duresses are farmed biodynamically. The wines are assertive and incredibly ageworthy.

"Initially there is enough reduction present to remark upon but it slowly gives way to the still super-fresh and very primary aromas of various red berries, spice and discreet floral nuances. There is both fine richness and density to the vibrant full-bodied flavors that possess a really lovely mouth feel thanks to the abundance of dry extract, all wrapped in gorgeously persistent and well-balanced finale. This is very much built-to-age and is clearly going to need it but it should be wonderful when it finally reaches its apogee."

"Comte Armand’s 2010 Pommard Clos des Epeneaux kicks off the tasting in grand style. What can I say? The 2010 is a great example of the year. Layers of generous fruit are buffered by underlying veins of acidity and minerality in a wine that is already virtually impossible to resist. This is a fabulous showing from a wine that consistently overdelivers. Already, the room is buzzing." -Vinous

"The 2010 Pommard Clos des Epeneaux could be Leroux’s finest so far. It has a convincing, elegant bouquet that at this early juncture bears semblances to the 2008, but ramps up the intensity without compensating on delineation, with subtle notes of spice and balsam coming through. The palate is medium-bodied with a sweet, candied entry. This is very pure, soft and caressing in the mouth but around the sides you can feel the tannins gently exerting their grip. There is not a hair out of place on this glorious, shimmering Clos des Epeneaux. Magnifique!" -Neal Martin
