Max Kilburg, Riesling Feinherb ‘Vertigo’, 2025

An off-dry Mosel Riesling with a serious cult following. 'Vertigo' is a collaboration between Max Kilburg — the 20th-generation winemaker behind the historic Geierslay cellar, trained under Julian Haart — and importer vom Boden, who selects barrels from Max's cellar alongside other proud Wintricher growers. The 2025 is sourced entirely from the village of Wintrich. Feinherb sits in that classic Mosel sweet spot: a touch of residual sugar to round things out, but firmly on the dry side of fruity. Fermented with native yeasts in stainless steel, the wine builds on the village's slate-rich terroir with bright orchard fruit, citrus zest, and that signature Mosel tension. It's a wine that delivers serious Mosel character at an everyday price — exactly the kind of bottle that converts skeptics to off-dry Riesling.

More about Max Kilburg

Max Kilburg, a 20th-generation winemaker on the Mosel, is one of the brightest young stars of German Riesling. He farms his family's Geierslay estate and his own micro-project—just 1.2 hectares of old-vine Grand Cru parcels. His Rieslings taste like pure slate and mineral electricity. Authentic, unshowy, unforgettable.

Tasting Notes & Food Pairings

Perfect Pairings

Made for spice — Thai green curry, Vietnamese pho, Sichuan dan dan noodles. Also lovely with smoked fish, roast pork with apples, or a sharp aged cheddar.

Tasting Profile

Medium-bodied, off-dry. Green apple, ripe apricot, and lime zest accented by honeysuckle and crushed slate. Vibrant acidity balances a kiss of residual sweetness, with a long, mineral, citrus-driven finish.

WINE GUIDES

German Wines

Is there a better grape than Riesling? Is there a better value? Its fruit purity, its perfume, and its mineral nuance are all unparalleled. And for centuries, the top German Rieslings were priced accordingly: at least as expensive as the top red wines of Bordeaux and Burgundy. But nowadays you could spend a lifetime exploring Germany’s great Riesling-producing regions while staying well within your budget. You might take an occasional break to try Germany’s other white grapes or perhaps a glass of Spätburgunder (the local name for Pinot Noir). It’s time to get started!
