Pommard vines at Bourgogne prices, which is exactly the kind of arbitrage worth knowing about. The cuvee comes from three separate parcels, totaling 0.92 hectares, of vines over forty years old lying just southwest of the Pommard appellation boundary, named in tribute to a great-uncle Paul who fought to protect the domaine's holdings. Emmanuelle-Sophie Moissenet took charge with the 2014 vintage, bringing degrees in agronomy, biology and viticulture to a family estate that has gone without chemicals in its vineyards for well over a decade. Fermentation is with native yeasts in concrete, and the Bourgogne rouges see only barrels at least six years old, so there is no oak flavor sitting on top of the fruit. The 2022 was a generous, sunny growing season that nonetheless held onto its freshness, making this a Bourgogne to drink over the next several years rather than cellar.

More about Moissenet-Bonnard

Jean-Louis Moissenet took over his mother's estate at 30 and spent three decades building it into a serious Burgundy name. His daughter Emmanuelle-Sophie now works the vines while Jean-Louis tends the cellar. They farm organically (non-certified) and work Pommard, Meursault, and other Côte de Beaune benchmarks with precision.
