The Monte Bernardi's 45 acre, biodynamically managed estate is producing some of the most compelling wines in Chianti. The vineyards are in the hilly, southern-most region of Panzano, one of Chianti's Grand Crus. Its wines can compete with the best in the world. The vines are planted on rocky soils which, depending on the vineyard, can consist of shale, marl and limestone. It took the vision of owner/winemaker Michael Schmelzer to harness all of these elements to produce toothsome Chianti Classico.
