Romain le Bars, Homme De La Roche VDF Red, 2023
is backordered and will ship as soon as it is back in stock.
Romain le Bars cut his teeth working alongside natural wine legend Éric Pfifferling at Domaine de l’Anglore, and you can feel that influence in every bottle he makes today. Now running his own micro-domain in Tavel and the broader southern Rhône, Romain crafts wildly expressive, low-intervention wines that buzz with energy and transparency.
Homme de la Roche is his Vin de France red—a playful but precise bottling made mostly from Grenache grown on sandy soils, picked early for freshness and fermented whole-cluster with native yeasts. There’s zero oak, minimal sulfur, and maximum drinkability.
The 2023 is bright, spicy, and feather-light: crushed raspberries, blood orange, herbs de Provence, and a little peppery snap. The palate is juicy and lithe, with a soft structure that makes it dangerously easy to drink. Serve it cool, and you’ll find it plays more like a Loire Valley red than a typical Rhône heavyweight.
Pair with: charcuterie, grilled veggies, picnic spreads—or anything involving sun and friends.
