Germany gets very little credit for Sauvignon Blanc, and von Winning is the estate that makes the case for it. Based in Deidesheim in the Pfalz, Germany's warmest wine region, the estate led the return to traditional, artisanal winemaking that put dry Pfalz wine back on the map, and it bottles a whole range of Sauvignon Blancs of which this 'II' is the most straightforward. The house style is the reason we keep coming back: fresh, salty and citrus-driven, and it carries directly into the Sauvignon, which runs to gooseberry, lime and cut herbs rather than tropical fruit. The 2025 is fresh off the most recent harvest. Drink it young and well chilled.
