Château Larrivaux doesn’t follow the typical Bordeaux script. It's been run by women since the 16th century (yep, 1580), and it's technically in Haut-Médoc, but the wines drink like something fancier—polished, earthy, and deeply satisfying.

The 2019 vintage is hitting a sweet spot right now: dark berries, cedar, a little graphite, and just enough grip to keep it structured. It’s mostly Merlot and Cab Sauv, with a splash of Petit Verdot for spice, and it’s aged in mostly neutral oak—so it’s elegant, not oaky.

This is proper Bordeaux without the pomp. Perfect for roast meats, mushroom dishes, or whenever you want a classy red that doesn’t cost a fortune.

Professional Reviews

Antonio Galloni

"The 2019 Larrivaux has a fragrant nose with brambly black fruit, subtle wilted rose scents with just a touch of freshly rolled tobacco. The palate is quite tart on the entry thanks to the fine acidity and a distinct saline note that imparts a great deal of freshness on the finish. It might just miss a little length, otherwise this is a noble Larrivaux that will give a decade of drinking pleasure, possibly more"

"Delivering aromas of earthy plums, berries, cedar wood and loamy soil, the 2019 Larrivaux is medium-bodied, with lively acids, powdery tannins and a delicately herbal finish. It's a solid Haut-Médoc." -William Kelley

"Mature ruby colour. Fully evolved but still lively with a good core of fruit and nicely balanced but acidity with the tannins fully resolved. Good current drinking and GV for those who appreciate maturity." -Jancis Robinson

"Richly expressive nose, full of ripe blackcurrant and bramble aromas. This has a lovely liquorice core alongside juicy strawberries andraspberries. I like the texture here too, chewy but soft tannins with a hint of dryness coming from the acidity at the moment. Feels nice and well balanced and I like the fresh minty kick on the finish also. Good stu."
