Giulia Negri has quickly become one of Barolo’s new-generation stars—farming organically, picking for freshness, and coaxing out nuance rather than brute force. Marassio is her flagship cru: a steep, high-altitude site above Serradenari, and one of the highest in all of Barolo.

The 2021 vintage brings precision and brightness: red cherry, rose petal, wild mint, and blood orange, with silky tannins and a cool, mineral backbone that feels almost Alpine. It’s Nebbiolo with tension and energy, aged gently in large oak to let the site shine.

If you love Barolo with lift, perfume, and a bit of edge—something that nods to Burgundy as much as Monforte—Marassio is the bottle. It’s thoughtful, expressive, and totally of the moment.

"Flinty reductive notes dissipate to reveal pepper, raspberry and delicate floral scents of dog rose. This has a bit more flesh on its bones but is still elegantly midweight. The palate builds with red currant and rosehip intensity gently supported by a hint of oak. Dry, grainy tannins flex their lean, sinewy muscles towards the finish, where earthy liquorice root takes over."
