Dumien-Serrette’s 2022 Cornas “Patou” Vieilles Vignes is a deep, wild expression of northern Rhône Syrah from vines averaging 80 years old. Grown on decomposed granite soils and vinified traditionally, this is Cornas in its raw, untamed glory—structured, meaty, and full of dark, mineral-drenched fruit.

It opens with blackberries, smoked herbs, olive tapenade, and crushed stones, all wrapped in firm tannins and lifted by fresh acidity. There’s no new oak, just the grainy texture of old barrels and a whole lot of vineyard character. It’s powerful but not polished—more mountain forge than marble hall.

This is a wine for lovers of old-school Rhône—gritty, structured, and alive. Decant it now to tame the beast, or tuck it away for a decade and watch it turn into something hauntingly beautiful.

Perfect for: braised lamb, grilled sausages, wild mushrooms, or anyone craving Syrah with real guts and granite.

Professional Reviews

Antonio Galloni

AG 94
"The 2022 Cornas Patou wafts from the glass with intense orange blossom, violet, raspberry compote, blackberry liqueur, cedar, hints of leather and crushed rocks. The 2022 is an intense Cornas framed by boatloads of ripe tannins, with secure aging potential. I’m quite curious as to how this will show from bottle." -Nicolas Greinacher

Robert Parker

RP 90
"The 2022 Cornas Patou, harvested between September third and fourth, displays an inky bouquet rich in spices, flowers and meaty aromas. It's medium to full-bodied, layered and concentrated, offering a structured and firm texture, suggesting the presence of phenols that contribute to the meaty notes in the finish and underscores the wine’s robust character." -Yohan Castaing

Wine Spectator

WS 93
"Offers a classic Cornas combo of dark fruit against a granite mineral wall. Keeps a freshness, too, alongside an expressive well of cherry, licorice, black pepper and allspice. Earth and salt notes layer in, bringing savory freshness. Graphite shaving and apple wood smoke details ground the full-bodied finish, which is firm and structured."

What importer Bowler Wine has to say about this wine...

100% Syrah. Made with partial whole-cluster fermentation. Aged two years in two to seven year-old barrels. "Patou" is the top site south of the village of Cornas with decomposed granite and a rich soil that gives supple tannins and perfumed wines. The oldest vines are 100 years old!
