"...Light yellow-gold. Smoky citrus and orchard fruits on the deeply perfumed, mineral-tinged nose. Offers broad, toasty orange and pear skin flavors with an undercurrent of dusty minerals. Picks up floral and ginger nuances with air, along with hints of iodine and tarragon. Rich yet lively blanc de blancs with powerful back-end lift and finishing grip. 92 pts"

Known as the oldest established champagne house, Ruinart has been producing wine since 1729 to please royalty in the Court of Versailles. And to this day, the wines are stunning, texturally decadent, yet focused and complex.

With Chef de Caves Frederic Panaiotis at the helm since 2007, one could say that the champagnes are better than ever. Fred's sharp acumen, passion for wine, and inimitable demeanor make him one of the most significant figures in Champagne today. While he modestly considers himself a guardian of the house style for other generations to follow, we think the wines are distinctively showing more precision and clarity since his tenure.

Professional Reviews

Robert Parker

RP 90
"This is a fabulous version of Ruinart’s NV Brut Blanc de Blancs. The wine seems fresher, more vibrant and less obviously sweet than in the past, all of which makes this a far more interesting wine. The trademark profile of lemon, jasmine and green apples is very much in the forefront while the wine’s textural finesse and length are both first-class. This release of the NV Brut makes a great introduction to the wines of Ruinart, Champagne’s oldest house. This is Lot LAGJSAF. Anticipated maturity: 2011–2014."

"This blanc de blancs (100% Chardonnay) is sourced mostly from the Côte des Blancs and Montagne de Reims, including a portion of premier cru vineyards. It has a lean, lemon and apple bite backed up by some smooth creaminess. It's fuller in body than stablemate Veuve Clicquot, displaying good acidity and power." -Jim Beam

Wine Spectator

WS 93
"Fresh, with focus and intensity, this nonetheless elegant Champagne is finely knit and minerally, offering flavors of crunchy white peach, toast and lemon curd, accented by aromatic hints of cherry blossom, fresh tarragon and spice that linger on the creamy finish. Drink now through 2022."

Wine Enthusiast

WE 92
"Crisp with a delicious line of acidity and ripe with apple and lemon flavors, this wine balances freshness with hints of maturity from aging in Ruinart's subterranean cellars. It's both taut with the tension of cool-climate Chardonnay & showing signs of toastiness."

Champagne

Champagne boasts some of the world’s greatest luxury brands with Krug, Cristal and, of course, Dom Perignon. But it’s also home to hundreds of small dynamic producers—farmers who grow their own grapes (often organically) and make (often with natural methods) tiny amounts of pure and absolutely delicious wine that reflect the individual personalities of their villages and terroirs. Toast with these wines, for sure. But also treat them like the great wines they are: taste, drink, explore!
