Sir Peter Michael made his fortune in digital imaging (Quantel), then built this winery in Knights Valley, Napa-Sonoma border, releasing wines starting in 1987. Paul Michael and wife Emily now run the estate, which remains family-owned. Single-vineyard Cabernet-dominant blends, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc-Semillon blends: three wines have placed in Wine Spectator's Top 100, and 14 have scored 98+ by Parker. The mailing list holds most of it. Quality-first, quietly serious.
