The 2021 Pierre Morey Pommard Premier Cru “Grands Epenots” is a powerful and complex Pinot Noir that captures the essence of this prestigious vineyard in the Côte de Beaune. Pierre Morey, renowned for his dedication to biodynamic viticulture and minimal intervention, brings a meticulous touch to this exceptional Premier Cru site. “Grands Epenots” is one of Pommard’s most esteemed climats, known for producing wines with depth, structure, and a balance of power and finesse.

In the glass, this wine reveals a deep ruby hue with garnet reflections. The nose is rich and layered, offering aromas of black cherries, red currants, and ripe plums, interwoven with earthy notes of forest floor, dried herbs, and a hint of spice, such as clove and cinnamon. On the palate, it is full-bodied and firmly structured, with velvety tannins and vibrant acidity framing a concentrated core of dark fruit flavors. Minerality and a touch of savory complexity add depth, leading to a long, elegant finish with lingering notes of spice and earth.

The 2021 vintage, marked by cooler conditions, lends this wine a remarkable freshness and focus, emphasizing its precise fruit and refined structure. This Premier Cru pairs wonderfully with roasted game, duck breast, or braised lamb shank, and it complements earthy mushroom-based dishes beautifully. While approachable in its youth for its aromatic brightness and texture, this Pommard has the potential to age gracefully over the next 12–15 years, gaining further nuance and sophistication. Pierre Morey’s “Grands Epenots” is a stunning example of Pommard’s power and complexity, offering a true sense of place and masterful craftsmanship.

Pierre Morey is a towering figure in Meursault. Along with his own prime vineyards he was also the winemaker at Domaine Leflaive in the 1980's and early '90's. He was one of the first growers in the region to fully embrace biodynamic farming, converting both Leflaive and his own domaine and reaching full certification by 1997. Now his daughter, Anne Morey, has taken the healm and is continuing on the path he started. She is a very intelligent, passionate and gracious person and her talents in the vineyard and cellar are exceptional.
