Domaine Harmand-Geoffroy is a family estate run by Gérard Harmand with nearly 10 hectares in Gevrey-Chambertin—the majority premier crus with one grand cru offering. Mazis-Chambertin is that grand cru: a wine of extraordinary concentration and complexity. The 2005 vintage produced Burgundies of remarkable balance and aging potential, and this grand cru showcases that promise beautifully at 21 years old. The complex bouquet reveals red berries (strawberry, raspberry, cherry), violet, pepper, and licorice. Significant substance on the palate contributes to beautiful complexity and a long finish dominated by freshness. This is a wine demonstrating how grand cru Pinot Noir develops with time.

Professional Reviews

Burghound

BH 94
"In contrast to the relative expressiveness of the prior '05s, this is brooding and expressive at present with reluctant aromas of ripe, spicy and distinctly animale earthy dark berry fruit aromas that complement perfectly the textured, dense and powerful flavors blessed with buckets of dry extract that cause the firm tannins to seem a good deal less prominent than they will be as this matures, all wrapped in an explosive and driving finish. This is a big yet focused wine that will improve over the next decade and last thirty."

Burgundy has long been the world's most famous wine region. But, underneath all the prestige, this region can be hard to get to know.

While Burgundy offers many great trophies from top producers in well-known villages like Vosne Romanee and Puligny Montrachet, it also offers excellent values to anyone willing to explore beyond the famous names. Our collection– one of the largest in the U.S. – has plenty of both!

From the very basics of Burgundy's regions and wines to the specific terroirs of individual single vineyards--
everything you need to know about Bourgogne is just a click away!
