This Premier Cru from Domaine Jérôme Chézeaux exemplifies a specific philosophy: Pinot Noir that is always fully ripe but never soft, extracted without becoming bruising. Les Charbonnières is one of Nuits-Saint-Georges' forty-one Premier Cru climates, and the estate's older vines bring heft and complexity. Recent changes in the domaine—with daughter Lyse now full-time and creating new single-vineyard bottlings—signal a generational shift toward terroir expression. The 2022 vintage is young and structured; expect 5-8 years of favorable aging. At release, it carries the noble acidity that defines Nuits' mineral edge. Decant 90 minutes before service. Pair with coq au vin, game birds, or aged cheeses.

What importer Rosenthal Wine Merchant has to say about this wine...

This Nuits villages cuvée from Chezeaux is selected from the oldest vines of Les Charbonnières—planted in 1920, 1930 and 1935—The vineyard is situated just below the premier cru Aux Corvées on the slope in the appellation’s southern sector and typically sees millerandage (shot berries) with very low yields. Boasting true old-vines power, this is always thicker-fruited and exuberantly spicy, with great length. Its lusciousness, however, does nothing to mask the underlying complexity that sets this cuvée apart.

From the very basics of Burgundy's regions and wines to the specific terroirs of individual single vineyards--
