Joseph Drouhin is, of course, one of the great names of Burgundy. A rare producer that makes fantastic wines across the whole range of prices. Their Musigny is one of Burgundy's most sought-after bottles. But their "everyday-priced" wines are some of the greatest values year in and year out. And in between those extremes, they have a whole range of perfectly terroir expressive wines that over-deliver for price, including gems like the legendary Cotes their Beaune Clos des Mouches, offering close to Grand Cru quality at decidedly lower prices.

Professional Reviews

Burghound

BH 93
"Like the Clos de Vougeot, this is unusually expressive at this very early stage with a highly seductive nose that combines a full panoply of red, blue and black fruit aromas, including blueberry and cassis along with an ample range of spice and earth nuances that complement perfectly the ripe, rich, intense and sweet medium full flavors that possess a beguiling texture on the driving finish. This is not a big or especially powerful Bonnes Mares, even by the standards of the elegant and refined Drouhin style but it's exceptionally classy and perfectly balanced. The 2006 wine of the vintage for Drouhin."

Robert Parker

RP 93
"Exuberantly pungent aromas of raspberry, sassafras, sage, and pepper greet the nose from the glass of Drouhin 2006 Bonnes Mares. Sappy and bright; lip-smacking and palate-sticking in its intensity; as so often from its appellation, this acts more like a high spirited stallion than a mature mare. The mineral dimension here is marine, with suggestions of brine, iodine, and shrimp shell reduction. More emphatic in its spice, pungency, and fresh fruit cut than most of its fellow Drouhin 2006s, this shares with them its virtues of clarity and cleanliness, and boasts refined tannins that should support 8-10 years of felicitous bottle evolution."

Focus On: Burgundy

Burgundy has long been the world's most famous wine region. But, underneath all the prestige, this region can be hard to get to know.

While Burgundy offers many great trophies from top producers in well-known villages like Vosne Romanee and Puligny Montrachet, it also offers excellent values to anyone willing to explore beyond the famous names. Our collection– one of the largest in the U.S. – has plenty of both!

From the very basics of Burgundy's regions and wines to the specific terroirs of individual single vineyards--
