What is this wine?
Ferrando is the benchmark producer of Carema, a tiny appellation at the Alpine edge of northern Piedmont. The estate specializes in Nebbiolo (locally called Picotendro), grown on steep, terraced vineyards supported by stone pergolas that trap warmth in this cool mountain climate. The “White Label” (Etichetta Bianca) is Ferrando’s classic Carema, aged in large oak casks for finesse and purity. The 2008 vintage comes from a year of excellent balance and long-lived wines across Piedmont.
Why get this wine?
Few wines express Nebbiolo’s alpine side as clearly as Ferrando’s Carema. The White Label offers extraordinary elegance, transparency, and lift compared to the richer Barolo or Barbaresco styles. Mature vintages like 2008 are rare to find and prized for their haunting aromatics and silky textures. This is a connoisseur’s wine—both collectible and deeply pleasurable at the table.
What does this wine taste like?
Aromatic and ethereal, with notes of dried cherry, strawberry, rose petal, and mountain herbs. Hints of leather, spice, and smoky minerality unfold with age. Light to medium-bodied, silky, and graceful, with fine-grained tannins and vibrant acidity.
When should you drink this wine?
Perfect now at peak maturity, though it will hold gracefully for another 5–8 years. Pair with roast poultry, alpine cheeses, or mushroom and truffle dishes. No need to decant—just let it open gently in the glass.
