The Ruffino family has been farming the cliffs above Varigotti — a tiny fishing village on Liguria's western coast — for over 500 years, building their stone terraces by hand using methods that haven't really changed in 3,000. Today four siblings run the estate: Tommaso makes the wines, Paolo sells them, Anna runs logistics, and Nicola works the vineyards. They farm almost exclusively local varieties (some of which only exist here), and their Vermentino comes from the single-vineyard Isasco, planted on gravelly red clay just a stone's throw from the sea. Fermented and aged four months on the lees in stainless steel — no oak, no makeup — it's pure Ligurian Vermentino: salty, aromatic, alive. A great current-release white from one of the coast's most distinctive growers.

Perfect Pairings

Grilled branzino with lemon, pesto trofie, fritto misto, salt-baked sea bream, or a plate of acciughe al verde. Anything from the Ligurian coast plays beautifully here, and oysters work too.

Tasting Profile

Lemon zest, white peach, green almond, and a flicker of wild herbs over a vibrant saline core. The palate is bright and gently textured from four months on the lees, with crisp acidity and a clean, salt-spray finish that nods straight to the sea.
