'Barolo di Barolo' comes from vineyards in the commune of Barolo itself—the village that gave the wine its name. This bottling blends multiple parcels from the commune's legendary clay-limestone soils, which produce Barolo's most elegant, perfumed expressions. Roagna's traditional methods—large Slavonian oak, long maceration, minimal intervention—allow the terroir to shine. The 2020 shows rose petal, cherry, licorice, and ethereal tannins. While more approachable than the single-cru bottlings, this still benefits from cellaring until 2028-2030. A gateway to understanding why Barolo captivates collectors worldwide.Skin-contact Chenin Blanc from Vouvray. Amber-hued, extended maceration. Dried apricot, chamomile, honey with tannic grip. Minimal intervention.

Professional Reviews

Antonio Galloni

AG 92
"The 2020 Barolo del Comune di Barolo is a fine entry point to the Barolos in this range. Soft and caressing, the 2020 is quite accessible even in the early going. Pliant contours wrap around dark Nebbiolo fruit, leather and crushed flowers. Spice and floral notes reappear to lift the sensual finish." -Antonio Galloni

Kerin O'Keefe

WE 95
"Aromas of violet, perfumed berry, new leather and camphor shape the nose while red cherry, wild strawberry and bitter orange flavors dance across the palate on the stunning Roagna 2020 Barolo del Comune di Barolo. Hints of truffle and underbrush lend depth while taut, polished tannins bestow seamless support. It's nicely balanced, with fresh acidity. Already accessible, this will also offer years of pleasure. Drink through 2038." -Kerin O'Keefe
