Napa biodynamics with a decidedly Alsatian heart. Robert Sinskey Vineyards has been the project of Rob Sinskey and chef Maria Helm Sinskey for decades — biodynamic before it was a buzzword, with the long-running mantra that wine is not an athletic event. Abraxas is their love letter to Alsace, grown on the organically farmed Scintilla Vineyard in Carneros and built around the four classic varieties: Riesling, Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, and Gewürztraminer, in shifting proportions depending on the vintage. The 2019, now six years on, has had time to knit those personalities into something singular — fermented bone-dry, perfumed and complex, with the savory edge that California's coolest sub-AVA gives white wines. A genuine American original.

Perfect Pairings

Spice-friendly and aromatic — Thai or Vietnamese cooking, roast pork with apples, schnitzel and red cabbage, Alsatian tarte flambée, charcuterie, or stinky washed-rind cheeses. Also lovely with a Dungeness crab salad on a hot afternoon.

Tasting Profile

Bright gold. Honeysuckle, chamomile, white flowers, honeydew melon, green apple, pineapple, lime, a curl of ginger. Dry but full-textured, with bright acidity, soft herbal undertones, and a long, savory, lightly spiced finish.
