Domaine l'Aigueliere, Montpeyroux Velours, 2015
is backordered and will ship as soon as it is back in stock.
What is this wine?
Domaine l’Aiguelière is a pioneering estate in Montpeyroux, one of the most highly regarded terroirs within the Languedoc. The Velours cuvée is a blend dominated by Syrah, complemented by Grenache, from old vines rooted in limestone and schist soils. The 2015 vintage was excellent in southern France, producing concentrated yet balanced reds with great aging potential.
Why get this wine?
Velours (“velvet”) is named for its plush, silky texture, which distinguishes it from the more powerful cuvées of the estate. Domaine l’Aiguelière is often credited with raising Montpeyroux to international recognition, and this bottle shows why: ripe fruit, finesse, and remarkable value compared to Rhône counterparts. From the superb 2015 vintage, it’s drinking beautifully now but can still evolve.
What does this wine taste like?
Ripe blackberry, plum, and black cherry with notes of garrigue, pepper, and spice. The palate is smooth and velvety, with supple tannins, balanced acidity, and a long, savory finish.
When should you drink this wine?
Perfect now after a short decant, with hearty dishes like grilled lamb, braised beef, or roasted root vegetables. Will continue to develop complexity through 2028.
