Thibaud Boudignon has redefined what’s possible in Savennières, crafting dry Chenin Blancs of staggering clarity and depth. With a background in Burgundy and a passion for biodynamic farming and minimalist cellar work, Boudignon is now a reference point—not just in the Loire, but across France—for terroir-driven whites that combine power, elegance, and aging potential.

“Clos de la Hutte” is one of his most prized single vineyards: a walled parcel on volcanic schist and sandstone soils in La Poissonnière, farmed entirely by hand. The 2022 vintage is stunning—a taut core of citrus peel, green apple, and crushed white flowers, layered over flinty minerality and carried by a spine of electric acidity. Aged in large-format neutral oak, the wine gains texture without ever softening its precision.

It’s a wine that bridges the structure of white Burgundy with the cut of great dry Riesling, but unmistakably Chenin in its savory, waxy depth and stony finish. There’s no excess weight—just purity, line, and latent power waiting to unfurl over the next decade or more.

Drink with buttered lobster, roast chicken with tarragon, or aged goat cheese, and consider cellaring a few bottles—this is Loire white at its apex.

Thibaud Boudignon has gone through the three stages of small-producer cultdom. First, there were the tweets and instagram posts. Maybe a foreign blog or small magazine article. The allusions to his wine were rapturous, but enigmatic and mostly from overseas.

Then came phase two: devoted wine folk "suitcased" bottles home to America to share with friends. Word spread. The hunt was on.

Finally, phase three: importers started bringing small amounts straight to California and New York. Thanks guys!

"Although it's ungenerous on the nose, the 2022 Savennières Clos de la Hutte is tender and generous in the mouth, welcoming you in. There's a cloud of gently handled fruit that embraces the palate, but it does so in an elegant and light-on-its-feet way. Texturally, it's seamless and coats the mouth with fine texture. In terms of flavor, expect salty, briny notes and citrus tones alongside a touch of spice and nutty oak on the finish. This is a wine that seems to be able to take a deep, calming breath and become more complete." -Rebecca Gibb MW
