Thibaud Boudignon's "Franc de Pied du Clos de la Hutte" emerges from one of Savennières' most storied sites—a vineyard that once belonged to a monastery in the hamlet of Possonnière. The name "Franc de Pied" reveals something remarkable: these Chenin Blanc vines grow on their own roots, ungrafted, a rarity in post-phylloxera Europe that speaks to both the site's unique terroir and Boudignon's commitment to preserving viticultural heritage.

This cuvée represents Boudignon at his most site-specific, drawn from the lieu-dit "Clos de la Hutte" where the former monastic walls once sheltered vines that fed the religious community. Working biodynamically, Boudignon allows this historic parcel to express the full complexity that has made Savennières legendary—the marriage of Chenin Blanc's natural acidity with the volcanic and metamorphic soils that characterize parts of the appellation.

Within Boudignon's portfolio, this wine stands as his most terroir-driven expression, showcasing how ungrafted vines can capture the essence of place with particular intensity. It's a wine that connects drinkers not just to Savennières' present excellence, but to centuries of winemaking tradition.

Thibaud Boudignon has gone through the three stages of small-producer cultdom. First, there were the tweets and instagram posts. Maybe a foreign blog or small magazine article. The allusions to his wine were rapturous, but enigmatic and mostly from overseas.

Then came phase two: devoted wine folk "suitcased" bottles home to America to share with friends. Word spread. The hunt was on.

Finally, phase three: importers started bringing small amounts straight to California and New York. Thanks guys!

"Hailing from ungrafted vines on the Clos de la Hutte vineyard, the 2022 Savennières Franc de Pied blossoms and expands in the mouth. Massive concentration sits within its delicate core. There's a bright line of citrusy acidity that carries this wine from start to finish with a residual saltiness, leaving you licking the inside of your mouth. It is restrained aromatically, focusing quietly on texture, essence and substance." -Rebecca Gibb MW
