From the rolling hills of Montalcino, Enzo Tiezzi’s 2021 Rosso di Montalcino “Poggio Cerrino” offers a lively and approachable expression of Sangiovese, capturing the region’s distinctive terroir. Sourced from the Poggio Cerrino vineyard, known for its unique clay and limestone soils, the wine showcases the freshness and vibrancy that define Montalcino’s reds.

The 2021 vintage opens with aromas of fresh red berries—cherry, raspberry—complemented by subtle spice and earthy undertones of tobacco and dried herbs. On the palate, it is medium-bodied with well-integrated tannins that provide structure without overwhelming the fruit. Enzo Tiezzi was president of the Consorzio del Brunello di Montalcino when the appellation achieved DOCG status in 1980—a moment he helped shape. In 1989, he took the leap to run his own estate, blending four small properties into a serious Brunello house. His wines are made the classical way: long macerations, aging in large Slavonian oak. This is old-school Montalcino.
