High-altitude Chardonnay with a pedigree: Benjamin Leroux, one of Burgundy's most respected winemakers, recently acquired Les Vireuils and brings his uncompromising philosophy to this overlooked site. Les Vireuils sits near the Auxey-Duresses border, just below the forest line, where east-facing exposure and altitude (some of Meursault's highest) create limestone-rich white soils perfect for pure, mineral-driven expression. Leroux works with 45-year-old vines using native yeast, minimal sulfur, and restrained new oak (no more than 30%). The 2023 emphasizes terroir clarity over winemaker showmanship. Expect crisp minerality, white stone fruit, and a crystalline structure that will evolve steadily over 8-12 years. This is Chardonnay that tastes like where it's from. Pair with oysters, herb-crusted fish, or scallops in cream sauce.

Professional Reviews

Antonio Galloni

AG 89
"The 2023 Meursault Les Vireuils has a tightly wound bouquet that's fairly neutral in style compared to the Meursault Village and just needs to find its voice. The palate is better with bitter lemon and orange rind on the entry, linear in style, with a touch of spice on the aftertaste." -Neal Martin

Focus On: Burgundy

Burgundy has long been the world's most famous wine region. But, underneath all the prestige, this region can be hard to get to know.

While Burgundy offers many great trophies from top producers in well-known villages like Vosne Romanee and Puligny Montrachet, it also offers excellent values to anyone willing to explore beyond the famous names. Our collection– one of the largest in the U.S. – has plenty of both!

From the very basics of Burgundy's regions and wines to the specific terroirs of individual single vineyards--
everything you need to know about Bourgogne is just a click away!
