The 2022 Pierre Boisson Rully Blanc “Les Cailloux” is a brilliant expression of Chardonnay from the Côte Chalonnaise, crafted with the same precision and attention to detail that has made Pierre Boisson a rising star in Burgundy. Known for his work in Meursault, Pierre Boisson brings his expertise to Rully, delivering a wine that beautifully showcases the region’s limestone-rich soils and vibrant terroir.

In the glass, this wine presents a pale gold hue with shimmering reflections. The nose is captivating, offering aromas of fresh green apple, lemon zest, and white peach, interwoven with subtle notes of crushed stones, hazelnut, and a hint of brioche. On the palate, it is both textured and vibrant, with a creamy mid-palate balanced by racy acidity. The flavors of citrus and orchard fruits are complemented by a distinct mineral backbone and a long, elegant finish.

The 2022 vintage, characterized by warm weather and excellent ripening conditions, imparts a generous and approachable quality to the wine while preserving its bright energy. This Rully Blanc “Les Cailloux” is an excellent companion to dishes such as grilled fish, roast chicken, or creamy risottos. Its depth and finesse also make it a delightful choice for sipping on its own. While ready to enjoy now, this wine has the structure to develop additional complexity with 3–5 years of cellaring, further enhancing its layered character and finesse. Pierre Boisson’s craftsmanship shines through, making this wine a remarkable addition to any Burgundy enthusiast’s collection.

Domaine Boisson-Vadot is a small estate that has been producing classic Meursault for about 200 years. The family holdings are under different ownership (per confusing French inheritance laws) hence the different label names (Pierre, Bernard and Anne). But everything is made at the estate, with Pierre doing much of the heavy lifting these days. Pierre is also known to compare notes and talk shop frequently with his school age buddy Raphael Coche.

There's no secret to the formula here. Just excellent vineyard management, mostly old vines and careful cellar work. The Boissons are very judicious with new oak and do little to no battonage during the long elevage. This results in clean, precise and beautifully transparent wines.
