Mostly Chardonnay from this top organic Grower. Unusually, there is more reserve wine in this blend than base vintage (2021), including some wine from the 2012 vintage. Well-balanced acidity and a creamy mouthfeel.

"This is a seriously dry wine. Arnaud Margaine works each harvest to create freshness and a totally crisp texture, generally dismissing malolactic fermentation. It is balanced, allowing the fruitiness to shine through the tight, mineral texture from the predominant Chardonnay in the blend that comes from a mere 16-acre Montaigne de Reims vineyard surrounded by Pinot Noir. It could age through 2015 in bottle to be even better." —Roger Voss

More about A Margaine

Mathilde Margaine is the fifth generation and first woman to lead the family domaine in Villers-Marmery—basically the Chardonnay island in a sea of Pinot Noir. Her family started making wine in 1796 (yes, 1796) and today she and her dad work just 6.5 hectares with obsessive care: blocked malolactic fermentations to preserve brightness, precise plot-by-plot work, and a "Special Club" membership since 1976. These are wines that taste refreshingly pure, not trying to show off.

Champagne

Champagne boasts some of the world’s greatest luxury brands with Krug, Cristal and, of course, Dom Perignon. But it’s also home to hundreds of small dynamic producers—farmers who grow their own grapes (often organically) and make (often with natural methods) tiny amounts of pure and absolutely delicious wine that reflect the individual personalities of their villages and terroirs. Toast with these wines, for sure. But also treat them like the great wines they are: taste, drink, explore!
