Have a question about this wine or any other in this year's sale?

Benoît Déhu’s Champagne “Cuvée Initiation Rosé” Extra Brut NV, with a base of 2021, is a remarkable example of the estate’s commitment to biodynamic principles and low-intervention winemaking. Crafted primarily from Pinot Meunier grown in the single vineyard of “La Rue des Noyers” in the Marne Valley, this rosé captures both the vibrancy of the fruit and the unique mineral expression of the terroir. Déhu’s method of vinification in oak barrels adds subtle depth and complexity to the wine, allowing the Pinot Meunier to fully express its character.

On the nose, “Cuvée Initiation Rosé” presents inviting aromas of wild strawberries, red currants, and a hint of citrus zest, balanced by floral notes and a touch of spice from the oak aging. The palate is both elegant and intense, showcasing red berry flavors with a delicate, creamy texture and lively acidity. The Extra Brut style enhances the wine’s refreshing minerality, leading to a long, clean finish marked by subtle saline and savory undertones.

Ideal for pairing with dishes like grilled salmon, duck breast with berry sauce, or earthy vegetarian dishes, this rosé offers versatility and sophistication. The 2021 base gives the wine a youthful energy, while the biodynamic care and artisanal approach in both vineyard and cellar ensure a refined and expressive Champagne that captures the essence of both Déhu’s vision and the Marne Valley’s terroir.

Benoit is a Meunier specialist, working his family's vineyards on the western edge of the Vallée de la Marne. Starting in 2011, he started bottling wines under his own name from a single parcel called La Rue des Noyers -- 100% Pinot Meunier, farmed biodynamically, and ploughed mostly by horse. In 2015, he started blending some of this PM with Pinot Noir from a nearby plot, and calls it Initiation.

Champagne

Champagne boasts some of the world’s greatest luxury brands with Krug, Cristal and, of course, Dom Perignon. But it’s also home to hundreds of small dynamic producers—farmers who grow their own grapes (often organically) and make (often with natural methods) tiny amounts of pure and absolutely delicious wine that reflect the individual personalities of their villages and terroirs. Toast with these wines, for sure. But also treat them like the great wines they are: taste, drink, explore!
