A textbook traditional Chateauneuf from a great vintage, now with fifteen years of bottle age behind it. Domaine Bois de Boursan sits entirely within the village of Chateauneuf-du-Pape, where Jean-Paul Versino farms organically and makes his Tradition cuvee the uncompromising old way: Grenache-led blend with Mourvedre and Syrah, fermented whole-cluster (no destemming), long maceration, and aging in old foudres. 2010 is one of the southern Rhone's benchmark modern vintages, prized for its freshness and structure, and this bottle has had the time to fully integrate. A mature Chateauneuf drinking in its prime. Decant.

Antonio Galloni

90 points

"Full ruby. Ripe red fruits on the nose and palate, with slow-mounting spiciness and florality adding complexity. Fleshy and open-knit, with very good back-end lift and power. Finishes on a spicy note, with silky tannins lending shape and grip." —Josh Raynolds

Robert Parker

90 points

"The 2010 Chateauneuf du Pape is dark plum/purple, with silky tannins, abundant black currant and sweet cherry fruit with hints of mulberries, lavender and licorice. It is perfumed, full-bodied, rich and appealing. Drink it over the next 10-12 years." —Robert M. Parker, Jr.

More about Bois de Boursan

Jean Versino moved from Piedmont to Châteauneuf-du-Pape in 1955 and planted ten hectares entirely within the village, now in the hands of his grandson Jean-Paul. The domaine is worked organically without chemical fertilizers or pesticides. Jean-Paul makes traditionally-styled reds with stems and extended aging in large oak foudres. This is terroir plus conviction—producing Tradition, Cuvée Félix, and a Châteauneuf Blanc.
