Raj Parr quietly made his way to the Central Coast, and Brij is the negociant label he started farming in 2020 from Cambria. Named for his father, Brij draws on organic vineyards Parr trusts up and down California; this Grenache comes from the newly minted SLO Coast AVA, the cool, marine-influenced strip of San Luis Obispo. The fruit is direct-pressed with minimal skin contact and fermented in a 2000L foudre, which is exactly the approach you would expect from one of the sommelier-winemakers responsible for Sandhi, Domaine de la Cote, and Evening Land. The result is a Grenache pulled toward the Old World: pale and translucent, perfumed with red cherry, raspberry, white pepper, and dried herb, with a saline lift that reads more Cote-Rotie understudy than New World ripeness. Drink now and through the next several years.

Robert Parker

"The 2024 Grenache derives from head-trained vines at Rancho Arroyo Grande planted in 1999 on diatomaceous earth. A delicate, lifted bouquet of red fruits, dried herbs and crushed stones introduces a slender palate with remarkable flavor concentration given its lithe frame. It closes with a pure, precise finish propped up by stem-derived tannins and citrus-driven energy." —Matthew Luczy

Tasting Notes & Food Pairings

Perfect Pairings

Grilled lamb chops with rosemary, herb-roasted chicken, mushroom-and-farro grain bowls, or a charcuterie spread with olives and cured meats. Light enough for tuna nicoise; serious enough to anchor a roast.

Tasting Profile

Pale ruby in the glass, with red cherry, raspberry, white pepper, and dried Provencal herb. The palate is light to medium-bodied, with fine, chalky tannins, brisk acidity, and a saline lift that pulls the finish toward freshness rather than weight.
