Cappellano, Barolo Otin Fiorin - Pie Franco, 2016 (1.5L)
is backordered and will ship as soon as it is back in stock.
Cappellano’s “Otin Fiorin – Pie Franco” 2016 is an unclassified Barolo in name only. It’s made from ungrafted (pie franco) Nebbiolo vines, planted in the legendary Gabutti vineyard in Serralunga d’Alba—a site known for its power, structure, and dark mineral depth. True to the late Teobaldo Cappellano’s legacy, the wine is produced in the most traditional way: long maceration, aging in large old botti, and zero marketing hype.
The 2016 vintage is among the finest in recent memory, offering transparency, energy, and aging potential, all of which elevate this already soulful bottling. The wine shows wild cherry, dried rose, tar, menthol, and iron, wrapped in firm tannins and vivid acidity. It’s not polished or flashy, but deeply moving—a wine that evolves over hours in the glass and years in the cellar.
In magnum, the structure is even more patient and layered, making this the ideal format for long-term aging or a landmark celebration.
Please note: as per Cappellano tradition, this wine is not reviewed by critics, in honor of the estate’s firm stance against scoring—adding to its mystique and cult following.
