Brunate is one of Barolo's most celebrated crus, a powerful, perfumed La Morra site, and Ceretto farms several hectares of it. The 1989 vintage is widely regarded as one of Piedmont's greatest, a year of near-perfect ripeness and structure, which makes this a benchmark bottle now in graceful maturity. Expect classic Nebbiolo power softening into tertiary complexity. From a private cellar, so storage varies; decant carefully and savor.

Antonio Galloni

91 points

"The 1989 Barolo Brunate is quite a bit fresher than the 1990 but shows the slightly leaner style typical of many wines in this vintage. The bouquet of spices, menthol, sweet tobacco and licorice melds into layers of dark fruit that come to life in the glass. The wine puts on additional richness with air and continues to develop lovely complexity in a very classic, mid-weight style." —Antonio Galloni
