Channing Daughters has always approached Long Island terroir with a curious, low-intervention lens—and L’Enfant Sauvage is their most expressive Chardonnay. Wild-fermented in French oak and aged on lees for nearly two years, the 2016 vintage is less about polish and more about depth, structure, and quiet complexity.

It’s not your typical domestic Chardonnay. The oak is present but integrated, lending texture and savory spice rather than flash. There’s richness, yes—but balanced by salinity, acidity, and a faint herbal edge that speaks to coastal vineyards and slow élevage.

This is a wine that rewards time in the glass. A little oxidative, a little wild, but grounded in intention. If you’re looking for something between Meursault and the avant-garde, L’Enfant Sauvage walks that line with confidence.

The first thing you notice about Christopher Tracy, winemaker at Long Island's Channing Daughters, is his enthusiasm and sense of wonder. Whether discussing semi-carbonic Dornfelder, his new label designs, or introducing you to his picking team, his joy is infectious.

Drinking his wines is no different. Each one of his 30 cuvées is a microcosm of terroir using a slew of non-dogmatic traditional methods. That's right, 30 cuvées. Each of them thoughtful, intentional, fascinating--joyful.
