Mature Right Bank Bordeaux from Count Stephan von Neipperg's stellar portfolio. This Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé was harvested in late September 1998, fermented in wooden vats for 25 days, and aged 18 months in 80% new oak. Robert Parker scored it 92 points and James Suckling 94 points. At 27 years old this has "ultra-fine tannins" and a "juicy, succulent finish." A mature claret ready for immediate enjoyment.

Robert Parker

91 points

"Pale to medium brick in color, the 1998 Clos de l'Oratoire has an earthy / meaty nose with a delicate core of cranberry sauce, dried mulberries, oolong tea and cigar box. Medium-bodied and elegantly styled in the mouth, the earth laced red fruits have a chewy frame and give a refreshingly savory finish." —Lisa Perrotti-Brown

Jancis Robinson

18 points

"Notably deep crimson with just a suggestion of age at the rim. Rich, opulent nose. Yet good freshness too. Velvety texture – real gloss to it."

Wine Spectator

92 points

"Intense aromas of black olive and blackberry, with a hint of grilled meat. Full-bodied, with chewy tannins and a long, rich finish. Very powerful and rich. Just starting to come around"
