What is this wine?
Château Coutet is one of the great names of Barsac, classified as a Premier Cru Classé in the 1855 Classification of Sauternes and Barsac. The estate, with its limestone-rich soils, produces some of the most elegant sweet wines in the region. The blend is anchored by Sémillon, with Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle adding freshness and aromatic lift. The 2010 vintage was a fine year for Sauternes, yielding wines of concentration, balance, and aging potential.

Why get this wine?
Coutet is a benchmark for lovers of sweet Bordeaux—famed for its brightness and precision compared to the richer, heavier style of Sauternes proper. The 2010 combines richness with Coutet’s signature lift, making it both indulgent and refreshing. Mature examples like this are increasingly rare and represent outstanding value compared to other premier cru estates.

What does this wine taste like?
Lusciously sweet yet balanced, with layers of apricot, candied citrus, pineapple, and honey, accented by floral notes and a touch of spice. Barsac’s limestone soils bring freshness and minerality, keeping the wine lively on the long finish.

When should you drink this wine?
Drinking beautifully now but will evolve gracefully through 2040. Perfect with foie gras, blue cheese, fruit tarts, or simply sipped on its own as a meditative wine.

Antonio Galloni

"The 2010 Coutet demanded some coaxing like the 2009, eventually offering sensual aromas of honeysuckle, jasmine and quince, although I feel the 2009 has a greater presence. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp acidity, fresh and focused with commendable weight. There is a deft touch of spice here and superb tension on the finish - a quintessential Coutet. Tasted from an ex-château bottle served at the estate." —Neal Martin

Robert Parker

"The 2010 Coutet, a blend of 75% Sémillon, 23% Sauvignon Blanc and 2% Muscadelle, is pale lemon-gold in color with a nose that explodes with decadent pineapple, mango and lemon meringue pie notes with touches of acacia honey, candle wax and yuzu. Full-on opulent in the mouth, the palate sings with concentrated citrus and tropical fruit layers, finishing long and honeyed. This has 160 grams per liter of residual sugar." —Lisa Perrotti-Brown

"RS 154 g/l. 75% Sémillon, 23% Sauvignon Blanc, 2% Muscadelle. Marmalade aromas and butter too. Thick but smooth with a light ginger beer note."

Wine Spectator

95 points

"Offers a bright inner core of honeysuckle, pineapple, star fruit and white peach flavors, coated for now with heather honey, marzipan and mango notes. Fresh and racy through the finish, this is an elegant beauty, showing terrific cut and precision."

Wine Enthusiast

"This is a very spicy wine with weight, great depth of flavor and concentration. Fine acidity cuts through the core, balancing sweetness and adding freshness to flavors of wild thyme-honey and orange marmalade. Drink the wine from 2017."
