Owned by Claire Villars-Lurton (of Chasse-Spleen and Ferrière), Château La Gurgue is one of Margaux’s best under-the-radar estates, with holdings near some of the appellation’s top crus. The 2016 vintage was exceptional in the Médoc—long, dry, and beautifully balanced—allowing the Cabernet Sauvignon to ripen slowly and fully.

This wine shows Margaux’s signature floral perfume right away—violets, redcurrant, and graphite—followed by supple tannins and a finely detailed, mineral-driven finish. There’s no excess here: just ripe fruit, fresh acidity, and the kind of quiet depth that invites both early enjoyment and graceful aging.

Drinking beautifully now with an hour in the decanter, but will continue to evolve through 2030+. For fans of classic Bordeaux who appreciate elegance over power, La Gurgue 2016 is a smart pick from a great vintage.
