La Tour Haut-Brion's 1996 exemplifies the precise, clean winemaking style of this smaller Graves property, aged 18-22 months in 30% new French oak. The 5-hectare vineyard, planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc on deep gravel soils, yields supple, medium-bodied wines with classical Graves character. Notes of coffee, tobacco, and grilled herbs lead to fine-grained tannins and good acidity—drinkable now but with 5-15 years ahead.
