Château Potensac is the Delon family's Médoc estate, run by the same hands behind the legendary Château Léoville Las Cases — and it has long punched well above its address, earning a reputation as one of the Médoc's standout values. This 2016 comes from one of Bordeaux's great recent vintages, a classic Cabernet-led blend with Merlot and Cabernet Franc grown on gravelly clay-limestone rises. Now with a decade of age, it's entering a lovely drinking window: cassis and cedar, savory earth and refined, resolving tannins. A back-vintage Médoc with serious pedigree, here in a half-bottle. Ready to enjoy.

Robert Parker

"Is the 2016 Potensac this estate's finest vintage to date? Certainly, its compelling bouquet of cassis and pencil shavings and it's seamless, beautifully balanced palate make a strong case. Medium to full-bodied, deep and concentrated, with beautifully refined tannins, lively acids and a long, penetrating finish, this is built to age with style, yet it is also quite accessible at this early stage for a young Potensac." —William Kelley

Decanter

90 points

"This is such classic Médoc - the freshness is clear, perfectly underpinning the crunchy red and black berry fruits. It's super-seductive and easy to drink despite being closed right now, as you would expect at this stage, but the weight of tannins suggests that it will open back up fairly swiftly, and a second bottle I tasted was even more juicy. 2% Petit Verdot completes the blend."

Wine Enthusiast

"With its fine tannins and ripe fruit aromas and flavors, this wine brings out all the elements of the vintage: great structure and great fruit. It's not a powerful wine, but is stylish and likely to be ready to drink within 10 years." —Roger Voss

More about Chateau Potensac

Château Potensac is one of Bordeaux's great under-the-radar gems. Like any true claret, it can be classically restrained and firm in youth, but wonderfully perfumed and cooly delicious with bottle age.

The wine is made by the Delon family, who also make legendary Saint-Julien 2nd growth, Léoville Las Cases. Potensac comes from vines further north, on gravel-over-limestone hills in the Médoc appellation just beyond Saint-Estèphe.
