Château Sainte-Marie is a standout in Entre-Deux-Mers—a region better known for quantity than quality. But here, high in the limestone-rich hills of the Grand Poujeaux plateau, the estate farms some of the region’s oldest white vines (many over 50 years) and treats them with the same care you'd expect in Pessac-Léognan.

The Vieilles Vignes cuvée is a Sauvignon Blanc-led blend, with Sémillon and a touch of Muscadelle for texture and aromatic lift. The 2024 is electric—bright citrus, green herbs, white flowers, and a chalky backbone that gives it a quiet, almost Chablis-like seriousness. It’s fermented and aged in stainless steel to preserve freshness and clarity, with no makeup to hide behind.

This is white Bordeaux for people who usually overlook white Bordeaux—pure, clean, and shockingly refined for the price. It’s proof that great terroir and thoughtful farming can turn even humble appellations into something special.

Pair it with: oysters, goat cheese, or anything involving lemon and olive oil.

Entre-Deux-Mers is one of the most exciting sub-regions in Bordeaux today. Producers are starting to respect the potential of their terroirs, which has in turn elevated the quality of the wines significantly in the last decade.

One of the leading estates, Château Sainte-Marie, works organically in some of the highest hilltops in the entire Bordeaux region. They are south-facing, making it relatively easy to obtain optimum ripeness, which is not always a given in Entre-Deux-Mers.
