Pomerol texture at a right-bank price you can actually justify. Siaurac is the largest estate in Lalande-de-Pomerol, the appellation just north of Pomerol that trades on the same plush, Merlot-driven charm for a fraction of the outlay — and its vineyard sits as a single block in Neac at the edge of the Pomerol plateau, barely a kilometer from the Barbanne stream that marks the Pomerol line, on a mosaic of gravel, deep clay and clayey sand. This 2022 is Merlot-led with Cabernet Franc and a splash of Malbec, aged 14 months in a three-way split of concrete, barrel and terracotta amphora, which is a deliberate bid for perfume and lift rather than oak weight. The property is farmed to High Environmental Value level 3 and converting to organic under the team that also runs Calon-Segur, so this is a wine in the middle of a serious upgrade. The estate calls it powerful yet elegant, with a spicy, floral bouquet and a velvety finish — that's their read from the early months of ageing, and it fits the house style exactly. Fun fact for the visitors: the 15-hectare park around the chateau was holds a 350-year-old holm oak.
