Arguably the single best value in Pomerol, and it comes with serious pedigree. Taillefer was the very first property the legendary Moueix family ever bought, back in 1923, and it remains in their hands, the same family behind Pomerol icons like Petrus and Trotanoy. This 2019 is classic Pomerol: Merlot-dominant with a little Cabernet Franc, but made in a deliberately restrained, traditional style with modest new oak and minimal sulfur, so it drinks well young without any overripe heaviness. 2019 was a superb right-bank vintage, ripe but fresh, and the wine delivers that plush Pomerol texture right out of the gate. Enjoy it now with a short decant, or hold it comfortably over the next decade. Serve around 60-64F.

More about Chateau Taillefer

There are a few pockets of value to be found in Pomerol; Château Taillefer may be the single best example.

Taillefer is a historic estate that dates back to the 18th century. The wines are very traditional in style, showing the beautiful, seamless texture Pomerol is known for, without ever being overripe or overwrought. Unlike many young Bordeaux wines, however, these can be enjoyed fairly young, however, owing to the lower percentage of new oak (33%) and minimal use of sulfur.

It's almost weird how good the wine is for the price. But really it should come as no surprise. The estate is owned by the illustrious Mouiex family, the name behind such benchmarks as Pétrus and Trotanoy.
