Cirillo Estate doesn't just farm the world's oldest Grenache — it also tends a hectare of Semillon planted in 1848, thought to be the oldest producing Semillon vines anywhere. The 'Ancestor Vine' Semillon is a Barossa rarity: dry, textural, and built to age, a world away from sweet Sauternes-style Semillon. The 2020 has the concentration and structure these ancient vines impart, and a few years in bottle have begun to unlock its waxy, honeyed depth. A fascinating, historic white for those who think they know Semillon.
