Eighteen years on a legendary Châteauneuf vintage, from a tiny old-school address. Clos des Brusquières has been bottling under this name since 1926, and the Courtil family produces exactly one wine—no special cuvées, no white, no shortcuts. Claude Courtil (nephew and godson of the late Henri Bonneau, no less, who taught him much of what he knows) ran the estate from 1969; his sons David and Jérôme took over in 2015. 2007 was one of the great Châteauneuf vintages of the modern era—rich, ripe, structured—and the blend that year was roughly 68% Grenache with Mourvèdre, Syrah, and a touch of Cinsault, aged in old foudres in the traditional manner. Approaching two decades in bottle, this is exactly the kind of mature CdP that justifies cellar time: tertiary aromatics, melted tannins, and the savory depth only a great vintage gives.

Antonio Galloni

92 points

"Bright ruby. Highly pungent bouquet of raspberry preserves, peppery spices, herbs and minerals, along with a smoky undertone. Lush, creamy raspberry and blackberry flavors are complicated by spicy floral and garrigue notes and gain sweetness with air. Seamless and sweet on the finish, which eventually leaves notes of sweet red fruits and spices behind. There'd be no crime in drinking this alluring wine right now." —Josh Raynolds

Robert Parker

90 points

"The outstanding 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape exhibits a darker, plum/garnet/ruby hue as well as an evolved, but complex bouquet of kirsch liqueur, lavender, new saddle leather, spice box, and garrigue. It is an unadorned, pure wine with the kirsch/black cherry liqueur character following through across the attack, mid-palate, and finish. Quasi-rustic tannins kick in at the finish, but there is more than sufficient substance to stand up to the wine’s structure. Nevertheless, I recommend 1-2 years of bottle age, and consumption over the following 12-15 years." —Robert M. Parker, Jr.
