Combier's flagship Crozes-Hermitage from a riper, more generous vintage than the year before. Clos des Grives comes from the domaine's oldest parcel, planted in 1952 on a clay-limestone plateau, farmed biodynamically by Laurent Combier and made as 100% Syrah with native-yeast fermentation and a year in oak. The 2012 vintage was warmer and rounder than the cooler 2011, producing wines with a touch more flesh and immediate appeal while keeping the freshness and structure that make this cuvee age. A benchmark for what serious Crozes-Hermitage can be; decant before serving.

More about Combier

Founded in 1834 in Saumur in the Loire Valley, Combier pioneered the triple sec category and later resurrected Élixir—a 19th-century recipe discovered in the distillery's archives for a herbal liqueur that somehow tastes like both history and very much alive. The brand was built on the idea that spirits should taste like what went into them, not like marketing. That philosophy still holds. These are liqueurs with backbone and meaning.

What has to say about this wine:

Tasting Notes & Food Pairings

Perfect Pairings

Braised short ribs, lamb, grilled sausages, or mushroom dishes. Black-pepper seasoning and hearty stews bring out its savory side.

Tasting Profile

Medium to full-bodied with ripe black fruit, pepper, smoke and floral notes. A touch rounder than the 2011, with fine tannins and a long finish.
