Comte Abbatucci doesn’t make boring wine—and the “Diplomate d’Empire” Blanc might be the most offbeat white in his already pretty wild lineup. Named after one of his (many) ancestor-heroes and made from a jumble of nearly extinct native grapes like Barbarossa, Rossola Bianca, and Biancu Gentile, it’s basically Corsica’s greatest hits on shuffle.
The 2022 vintage is sun-kissed but super fresh. You get stone fruit, sea breeze, Mediterranean herbs, and just enough texture to keep things interesting. It’s aromatic and savory at the same time—like Vermentino and Rhône white had a beachside fling and brought some old Corsican wisdom along for the ride.
As always, Abbatucci farms biodynamically and keeps the cellar low-intervention. The result? A wine that feels alive, a little mysterious, and really, really fun to drink.
Perfect with grilled fish, garlicky vegetables, or anything with olive oil and salt. Or just chill it down and drink it while planning your next imaginary Corsican vacation.
