Chambolle-Musigny is Burgundy's perfume commune - lacy, red-fruited, floral - and 2005 gave it the backbone to hold that perfume for twenty years. The vintage was shaped by a long dry summer that concentrated the fruit without cooking it, producing reds with firm tannins and, unusually, the acidity to match; the best 2005s are only now unwinding. This is a back-vintage bottle from an early chapter of David Duband's career, made before he took on Jacky Truchot's old vines and shifted toward the whole-cluster, low-oak style that defines the domaine today - riper and more polished than his current wines, and interesting for exactly that reason. Two decades in bottle have done the rest of the work. Open it now, with a gentle decant; there is no reason to wait.
