"A subtle application of wood sets off black and purple fruit aromas, in particular plum, as well as notes of spice and stone, both of which can be found on the rich, intense and palate soaking flavors that also abound with extract. Between the ripeness and the ample extract this could easily be top heavy but in fact there is excellent focus and balance. Villages level wines are rarely found at this quality level."

"The 2009 Charmes-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes is starting to close down. An initial blast of blue and black fruit leads to sweet, perfumed flowers as the wine slowly unfurls in the glass. Still, it is clear that the 2009 is in no mood to reveal all of its cards. Glimpses of its beauty appear from time to time, but the 2009 is a wine whose best days lie somewhere in the future. For now, this tasting is enough to confirm that the wine is indeed quite special." -Vinous

"The Gevrey Chambertin Village is a little reticent on the nose at first, touches bergamot inflecting the crisp dark cherry fruit, touches of limestone beginning to show through. The palate is fresh and lively on the entry, very good acidity with a sorbet-like freshness. Dark cherry, a touch of cassis and blueberry, firm backbone line the filigree finish. Excellent."

"Very incense nose with real excitement and density. Very rich and supple and gorgeous. Just lovely - you would never think it was ‘just’ a village wine. Light calcaire pebbly slope – quite like Charmes. To be bottled after full moon in March. Very small bunches. So long and rich. Great reverberant stuff."

Focus On: Burgundy

Burgundy has long been the world's most famous wine region. But, underneath all the prestige, this region can be hard to get to know.

While Burgundy offers many great trophies from top producers in well-known villages like Vosne Romanee and Puligny Montrachet, it also offers excellent values to anyone willing to explore beyond the famous names. Our collection– one of the largest in the U.S. – has plenty of both!

From the very basics of Burgundy's regions and wines to the specific terroirs of individual single vineyards--
everything you need to know about Bourgogne is just a click away!
