Armand Rousseau was among the first to estate-bottle in Burgundy, and three generations later, Eric Rousseau continues to produce what many consider the definitive expression of Chambertin. One hundred percent Pinot Noir from Grand Cru rocky limestone soils, organically farmed, ninety percent destemmed, and fermented 18-20 days. The 2022 is described as monumental: supremely ripe black cherry, plum, and cassis loaded with spice and floral notes, with finely sculpted tannins and remarkable depth. This is Grand Cru not as showiness but as commitment to place. Hold until 2027 at minimum; it will reward patience through 2065 and beyond.

Antonio Galloni

"The 2022 Chambertin Grand Cru conveys a sense of grandeur on the nose, leaning slightly more towards red than black fruit, very harmonious and complex, with pressed flower scents filtering through with aeration. It is difficult to drag your nose away from the glass. The medium-bodied palate has very finely sculpted tannins and great depth with a smoothly textured, lightly spiced finish that lingers very long in the mouth. Superb." —Neal Martin

Robert Parker

"Aromas of sweet raspberries and cherries mingling with notions of orange zest, incense and spices in a complex bouquet introduce Rousseau's 2022 Chambertin Grand Cru, a full-bodied, deep and layered wine that's concentrated, precise and penetrating. It's one of the least evolved wines in the cellar, but it's very fine-boned for such a warm vintage." —William Kelley

"Cask sample. Mid ruby. Red cherries, strawberry and raspberry on the nose. Elegant floral notes, too. On the palate, sweet, concentrated red-fruit core over something more dramatic and carefree. Seemingly chaste, but intriguingly intense all the way to the finish. Very fine, overshadowed by the Clos de Beze, but fine and well bred."

"The 2022 Chambertin is a monumental wine with supremely ripe black cherry, plum, and cassis fruit loaded with spice and floral notes. There is an immense depth of flavour and a superbly dense and compact texture. As the wine sits in the glass, it seems almost infinitely complex. This tightly wound wine is not as generous as the Clos de Bèze. The truth is that the Bèze is perhaps more immediately engaging, while the Chambertin has more substance and ultimate potential. However, both wines will probably outlive anyone tasting them today since they seem set to age for a century."
