Nuits' most coveted 1er Cru, currently in the formal Grand Cru promotion process with INAO. Les Saint-Georges sits at the southern end of the appellation and has long been considered grand-cru-quality in everything but title — its bid for official promotion has been working its way through the system for roughly a decade. Faiveley, now under seventh-generation Erwan Faiveley with winemaker Jérôme Flous, owns a tiny 0.23-hectare slice with vines planted in 1933 and 1974, raised in around 50% new oak. 2022 was a warm but balanced Burgundy vintage that delivered ripe fruit alongside structural backbone. This is a young, ageworthy, serious wine — open in a decade-plus, or decant aggressively now.

"More moderate wood influence is present on the equally ripe yet cool aromas of various spice elements, red currant and wild cherry. The mouthfeel of the bigger-bodied flavors is also quite sleek while displaying good detail and focused power on the youthfully austere and notably firmer finale. This too is lovely though as is usually the case with LSG, a wine that's going to require at least moderate patience." —Allen Meadows

Robert Parker

"The 2022 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Saint-Georges unwinds in the glass with notes of dark berries, orange zest, exotic spices and peonies, followed by a medium to full-bodied, ample and richly layered palate, its generous core of fruit framed by sweet, powdery tannins. Seamless and complete, it's almost the stylistic opposite of the ethereal Damodes." —William Kelley

Faiveley is an Iconic Domaine in the best sense of the term. They have both history and pedigree (almost 200 years and 7 generations old), but also innovation as current managers Erwan and Eve Faiveley look to the future.

Tasting Notes & Food Pairings

Perfect Pairings

Substantial dishes. Roast leg of lamb, rare ribeye, duck breast with cherry, beef bourguignon, or game in the autumn. Decant a few hours ahead if drinking young.

Tasting Profile

Medium to full-bodied and tightly wound, with dark cherry, blackcurrant, iron, warm spice, and a mineral undertow. Tannins firm and finely grained, acidity bright, the finish dense and long. Built for the cellar.
