A monopole 1er Cru from one of Burgundy's most worshipped addresses. Domaine Georges Roumier farms this 2.6-hectare Clos de la Bussiere at the southern edge of Morey-Saint-Denis, downslope from Clos de Tart, and is the site's only owner. Its iron-rich clay-limestone soils give a fleshier, more powerful style than Roumier's airy Chambolle wines, with real depth and grip. 2008 was a cold, wet season rescued at the last moment by a strong north wind that arrived in mid-September, drying and concentrating the fruit; yields were tiny, acidity was high, and the best Premier Crus have aged on that fresh, energetic frame. Eighteen years on it is mature but still lively, with no rush at all. A rare bottle from a domaine whose wines are nearly impossible to find, and it reaches us from a private cellar.
