"This is even spicier with a terrific range of floral elements as well on the aromas of plum, violet and ripe dark raspberry. The firm, focused and almost painfully intense mineral-driven flavors are at once chiseled and breathtakingly long on the balanced, compact, austere and built-to-age finale. This is absolutely superb though note well that this is a wine to allow at least 7 to 8 years first as it's presently a block; a beautiful and very classy block, but a block nonetheless."

"The 2020 Volnay Les Taillepieds 1er Cru has an overtly floral bouquet: wilted rose petals, iris and violet, wonderful definition with plenty of crunchy red and black fruit comingling. The palate is medium-bodied with fine, quite firm tannins, crisp acidity, structured and quite "serious" with black pepper and a touch of clove on the pesistent finish. This will require some bottle age." -Vinous

"The 2020 Volnay 1er Cru Taillepieds opens in the glass with aromas of raspberries, blackberries, raw coca, loamy soil and spices. Medium to full-bodied, velvety and concentrated, it's layered and vibrant, with terrific intensity without weight. This is an unusually fine-boned Taillepieds that is likely to emerge as the most elegant of the 2018, 2019 and 2020 trio."

"Relatively deep crimson. Intense with a top note of liquorice. Spicy and rich in this vintage. Broad fruit and no shortage of tannins. But those tannins have been exceedingly well managed. Absolutely not sweet – quite a savoury finish in fact that is lightly grainy in texture at this early point in its life."

Decanter

"This is a cooler terroir that gives a slightly more reserved wine, yet there is no lack of elegant blue and black fruit or floral notes here. The texture is supple and silky; less weight than the Champans but perhaps more elegant. The Taillepieds is from a 1.07ha parcel at the top of the steep slope and the same level as Clos des Ducs. The grapes are destemmed and fermented on native yeast in open-top oak fermenters before ageing in cask"

Burgundy has long been the world's most famous wine region. But, underneath all the prestige, this region can be hard to get to know.

While Burgundy offers many great trophies from top producers in well-known villages like Vosne Romanee and Puligny Montrachet, it also offers excellent values to anyone willing to explore beyond the famous names. Our collection– one of the largest in the U.S. – has plenty of both!

From the very basics of Burgundy's regions and wines to the specific terroirs of individual single vineyards--
